Fucking Why???

Also known as the “about” page.

You’re wondering why I’m doing this. Why I decided to kill my liver by reading this book and getting drunk.

Well, I’d like to tell you, but I can’t. It’s 2022 and I started this project in 2013. Gods only know what 2013-Katje was thinking. I barely know what 2022-Katje is thinking most days.

But I will tell you this…

…despite the creeping cirrhosis and tech problems and insane amounts of time editing these things, I actually enjoy doing them. Weirdly. Maybe I’m just a masochist. (Narrator: This was, in fact, true.)

…viewers enjoy watching them, and I do everything for the fans. Even if there are only…*does head count*…three? of you?

So I soldier on. Maybe someday soon I’ll be able to get these out faster than once every *checks notes* TWO YEARS???

And if I ever finish this series, maybe I’ll set my sights on other terrible books. Or maybe I’ll finally embrace sanity and give my poor beleaguered liver a rest.

Who knows? Certainly not me.

For First-Time Viewers

NSFW: These videos are not safe for work or life in general and should not be viewed by anyone, probably.

Content Notes: On a few of the vids I give trigger / content warnings because I used to believe in that sort of thing, but I don’t any more. Sorry, I guess. Just assume a blanket warning for the series, because Fifty Shades of Grey is actually pretty bad for being full of content that is actually triggering.

Viewing Order: Honestly, this is really dependent on who you are and how much you care about what actually happens in these books.

If you’re watching to get a recap of the actual content of the books: don’t do that, what are you doing. I’m terrible at recapping what happens and you will not get a good picture. Honestly I recommend Jenny Trout’s recaps if you really want to know what happens.

If you’re watching because you need a shot of comedy in your life and watching a fat woman destroy her liver while reading through a ridiculously bad book series is how you wanna do it: start with the most recent episode to see if you like my comedy style, then go back and catch up.

Or, like, do whatever you want, I am not your mom.

Video Availability

I started doing this on Youtube. Then Youtube changed their policies to be sketchy as fuck when it comes to the rights of creators so I got squirrelly and started diversifying.

Fifty Shades of Drinking is now available on Youtube, Rumble, Odyssee, Vimeo, and Facebook (Chapter 8 onwards).

For Fans of Fifty Shades

Look, I’ve been really mean to you. I apologize for that. If, in the past, I have insinuated you’re a bad person for liking this book series, well, I would like to retract those words, but I can’t, so I’ll just apologize again. I’m also very sorry if I’ve ever insinuated any other insulting thing about you based solely on your terrible taste in books. (Excepting, of course, the insult of “terrible taste in books” because I’m sorry, my dear, that’s just true.)

I will not apologize for what I’m doing to these books you inexplicably love, nor will I apologize for my criticisms of said books. These books are objectively terrible writing and it’s very easy to argue that they romanticize abusive relationships.

That in particular is one of my criticisms of the book, and you won’t change my opinion that they romanticize abuse.

To be honest, it’s disgusting to me that these books have become such a massive part of the cultural zeitgeist, and that they’re used as “shorthand” for “erotic romance” when they are a) not erotic and b) very much not romantic and honestly, if you want sexy BDSM times in your reading there are many much better options out there that don’t take the concept of informed consent and light it on fire before throwing it out the window of Christian Grey’s boring-ass apartment.

I digress. Regardless my feelings about these books, they do have their fans, and I should get better at practicing “Your Kink Is Not My Kink And That’s Okay.”

I guess. In most cases. Some cases I’ll definitely follow “Your Kink Is Not My Kink And I’m Judging You”.
